EA in Hostile Bid to Acquire Take Two

GamePolitics.com is reporting on an acquisition proposal for Take Two that has now become public. In the proposal, EA is offering $26 per share for Take Two stock, a 60% premium over recent share prices.

An EA press release claims that it offered $26 per share for Take Two stock in a February 19th letter from EA CEO John Riccitiello (right) to T2 boss Strauss Zelnick (left). After Take Two management rejected EA’s offer, Riccitiello decided to appeal directly to T2 shareholders. The $26 offering price represents a better than 60% premium over recent T2 share prices.

Microsoft drops HD DVD Effort for XBOX 360

Yahoo reports that Microsoft will stop making HD DVD players for its XBOX 360 video game system after Toshiba Corp. ceded the HD video format battle to Sony Corp.'s Blu-ray.

Microsoft was one of HD DVD's main backers, along with Intel Corp. and Japanese electronics maker NEC Corp., and its support for the format was seen as a big win for Toshiba's format.

But support for the HD DVD waned as major movie studios — Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Co., News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. Entertainment — picked Blu-ray to distribute high-def DVDs. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. struck what seemed to be the final blow just over a week ago when it said it would only sell Blu-ray players and discs.

Server Load and Digg

Last night we were DUGG... for an article submitted by our very own Sapphire. Sapphire had responded to a recent blog post by aetheistium of Destructoid. Sapphire has some strong feelings regarding girls in gaming...

We submitted our response to the issue into DIGG yesterday. After about 5 hours, it has hit the front page of the site. Unfortunately, apparently everyone at DIGG are pigs, and/or sexists; the story was BURIED after about 270. This did however, still give SpawnPoint a huge surge of traffic.

Going into the DIGG, I was really unsure how our new Linux boxes, and our PHP environment would handle the traffic. However, ServerBeach's hardware really came through and I am happy to report, we passed with flying colors. Over the 20 minutes of digg traffic, our server handed over 12,000 unique visitors, downloading, and linking into our article! Go PEER 1!

This was our highest load during the peak of the DIGG:
22:09:20 up 11 days, 9:15, 2 users, load average: 3.54, 3.34, 3.97
